Marimba player in Helsinki

This Marimba performance in Helsinki reminded me of my college days studying with John Kasica of the St. Louis Symphony. Being able to play many styles helped me grow as a player… wish I’d kept my classical chops up… BUT you can’t do it all. 🙂

His instrument looked new, but well worn. Is that just my imagination, or, do street instruments take a beating? Kind of hard to pack up a marimba and shove it in the van to drive to the next gig. I guess it can be done, though.

Isn’t it something, though, that, once you begin to earn money in the music business, you really focus on your money-making skills and not so much on the things that got you there? Kind of makes me think that maybe I should join our local civic concert band, just to “check the foundation” of my musical awareness.

  2. Wow Carl, you were in Finland.. I would have loved to catch up with you..I’m from here.. I was one of your students at Ywam worship school in 2000. I will always remember your 4-step practice routine 🙂 Blessings !!
